Beech Hurst Gardens receives prestigious Green Flag Award
Congratulations to Beech Hurst Gardens which has been recognised as one of the country’s best green spaces and so has been awarded with a prestigious Green Flag Award.
Beech Hurst is a beautiful open green space in Haywards Heath and much loved by the residents so I was delighted to attend the Green Flag raising ceremony to celebrate the great work done by all at Beech Hurst Gardens.
Residents can help to maintain the beautiful surroundings at Beech Hurst Gardens by joining the local friends group. If you would like to become involved in horticultural maintenance within the garden, then please contact Mid Sussex District Council’s Landscape Contracts Manager, David Terry, at David.Terry@midsussex.gov.uk or call 01444 477439.
Stop Speeding Motorists in Haywards Heath
Haywards Heath Town Councillors are concerned with the speed of some traffic through the Town in particular in residential areas. We are therefore taking a proactive role in raising awareness of speeding and today I joined fellow Councillors to undergo speed check training with Sussex Police.
We are now qualified to hold road side speed checks and will be able to pass on this information through operation crackdown. Obviously we are not able to issue enforcements but hopefully our presence on the streets will help deter speeders and make motorists more aware of their speed.
If you feel speeding is an issue please let me know where and I will be able to organise a speed check in your area.
Bolnore Rec Ground Consultation
Together with Cllr Mims Davies I attended the Bolnore Rec Ground exhibition this evening. It was great to see so many residents contribute their views towards the plans. Feedback was extremely positive but if you would like to add your views please visit http://www.midsussex.gov.uk/page.cfm?pageID=9269 Read the rest of this entry »
The ‘Great Gate’
Together with local District Councillors Mims Davies & Jim Knight I went to see the new ‘Great Gate’ linking Bolnore Village and Ashenground.
A craftsman-built field-gate dubbed ‘the Great Gate’ has been installed to mark the re-opening of a bridleway linking Bolnore Village & Ashenground.
The gate acts as the entry point to the Ashenground & Bolnore Local Nature Reserve, set aside from the land on which Crest Nicholson has developed the Bolnore Village development in Mid Sussex, and marks the start of the Ashenground Bridleway which acts as a route for pedestrians and horse riders.
Alastair McPherson from Bolnore Village Residents Association said: “This really is a great gate in every way – it is not just that is simply enormous, but it is a great step forward for Bolnore Village because the work to make the bridleway usable hugely improves the access from Bolnore Village to Haywards Heath. A year ago you needed wellies to walk it, but now mothers use it to get their kids to Bolnore Village School and parents can walk it with pushchairs, something that couldn’t have happened a year ago”.
Thanks to Stuart Meier and the Friends of Bolnore & Ashenground Woods who conceived and developed the plans for this ‘Great Gate’
Meet & talk event – Orchards Centre
Haywards Heath Town Councillors were delighted by the response to their meet & talk event at the Orchards Shopping Centre today. Councillors were commended on their open approach and willingness to engage residents.
The feedback we received today will be built into future council planning and policy work, which will include the development of a Neighbourhood Plan.

Have Your Say on Bolnore Recreation Ground
Mid Sussex District Council and the Bolnore Village Residents Association would like to hear your views on an exciting proposal to build a new sports pavilion and recreation facilities in Bolnore Village, Haywards Heath. To ensure that the proposal meets the needs of the community, the Council is encouraging all potential users to make their voices heard.
The consultation runs from 24 June until 29 July and there will be a public exhibition at Bolnore Village Primary School on Tuesday 12 July (6-8pm) where Council Officers and representatives of the Bolnore Village Residents Association will be available to answer questions residents may have about the scheme. New Housing Numbers for Mid Sussex Lowered
Following the previous Labour Governments unworkable housing target of 17,000 new homes in our District, I am pleased to say some reality is being returned to new housing numbers.
I attended a meeting last week to discuss the draft District Plan where it was proposed the plan would be based on a housing figure of 530 new homes per year, thats a third lower than soon to be abolished South East Plan. This figure is sustainable and will enable us to protect the unique character of the communities that make up Mid Sussex.
Please read http://www.midsussex.gov.uk/page.cfm?pageID=9342 for further information and I will keep you informed on future public consultation on both the District & Neighbourhood Plans.
